The Kenyan Security inter agency personnel comprised of the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF), backed by the General Service Unit, Anti-Narcotics/Drugs and Arms Unit sealed off the Mombasa Port facility and mounted a major security operation.
The Inter-agency units conducted the security search operation on a Höegh Autoliner’s vessel shortly after it had docked at berth no. 13 on Thursday late evening. It was believed that the vessel was being used to smuggle drugs and illegal arms which are used in East Africa’s conflict zones.

According to Höegh Autoliner, the vessel’s last port of call was Mumbai, India and after berthing in Mombasa port, the vessel was boarded by the Kenyan security authorities, who requested to inspect the cargo to be discharged in Mombasa. The vessel’s crew, Line’s local agent and Höegh Autoliners’ local African operations team cooperated fully with the Kenyan security authorities.
